The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic, H.E. Jan Lipavský, has announced additional support for ongoing flood relief efforts in Bosnia and Herzegovina during his visit to Sarajevo. The Czech government is contributing €40,000 to the most affected municipalities to aid in cleanup and recovery efforts following recent flooding. This contribution highlights the enduring partnership between the Czech Republic and Bosnia and Herzegovina and the shared commitment to stand together during times of crisis.

In addition, the Czech NGO People in Need will provide a further €30,000 in support through its Club of Friends programme. This donation is aimed at strengthening recovery initiatives and offering crucial support to the most affected communities.

An ongoing disaster risk reduction (DRR) project, initially designed to mitigate wildfire risks in Jablanica and implemented in collaboration with the Ministry of Trade, Tourism, and Environmental Protection of the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton, the Municipality of Jablanica, and the Czech NGO People in Need, is now being repurposed to address the urgent humanitarian needs resulting from the floods. The adaptation of this project highlights the flexibility and responsiveness of Czech Aid and People in Need in supporting communities during their time of need.

Looking foward, there is a possibility that the DRR project may be extended or expanded into 2025, pending approval from the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Such an extension would ensure continued support for recovery and resilience-building in flood-prone areas.

As previously announced, Czech Aid and People in Need made an immediate donation of 25,000 BAM in non-food items to the Civil Protection of the Municipality of Jablanica, to support their response to the recent natural disaster. The funds were provided by Czech Aid and individual citizens of the Czech Republic through People in Need’s Club of Friends programme.

The impact of the floods is not confined to Jablanica. In the coming days, People in Need will continue to explore ways to support the recovery of communities in Konjic, Kiseljak, Kreševo, Fojnica, Hadžići, Drežnica, and many other areas affected by this devastating disaster.
